Firuza Sharipova wants to fight Amanda Nunes in a boxing match
WBC Silver junior lightweight champion and previously dubbed “sexiest female fighter alive”, Firuza Sharipova has issued a challenge to fight two-division UFC champion Amanda Nunes.
The world witnessed Nunes do the unimaginable in knocking out virtually the most feared woman in combat sports, Chris “Cyborg” Justino.
Nunes has now knocked out two of the top female UFC fighters within one round.
Sharipova, a 24 year-old Kazakh fighter, will hopefully fight WBC junior lightweight champion Eva Wahlstrom in 2019.
In 2017, the Kazakh fighter won the IBO and WBC silver titles. As a result, she became the obligated challenger for the WBC champion. The fight was on schedule for December 22.
Wahlstrom, however, was offered a fight with unified lightweight champion Katie Taylor that was more appealing.
Sharipova took to social media with comments. Post translation, here is the take away:
“Congratulations to Amanda Nunes on her victory over Christina Justino. She showed beautiful boxing technique and completed the fight with an early clean knock out.
“I was really waiting for this as I wanted to meet in the summer. Now I am going to ask my team for them to organize this fight in 2019. Given the skills of Nunes, it should be interesting.
“Roy Jones Jr. is a good friend of UFC President Dana White. At the moment, we are cooperating with the Roy Jones team and I will ask them to help us organize a fight with the UFC Champion Amanda Nunes.”
Some may believe this is ploy to generate attention. However, let’s remember there has always been a connection between UFC fighters and boxers looking to fight each other.
Rest assured given that many see Nunes as the best woman fighter in the world, there will more challenges issued from women fighters in the future.
