Shawn Porter’s fight wish list: Spence, Crawford, and Pacquiao

Two-time welterweight champion “Showtime” Shawn Porter (31-3-1, 17ko) is a tough fight for anyone. With his in-your-chest, fan-friendly fighting style, he believes he could beat WBA ‘super’ champion Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39ko) in an exciting fight.

Porter is one of those throwback fighters where it does not matter if he wins or loses. His popularity always increases because fans feel like they got their money’s worth. Moreover, he has shown a willingness to step in the ring with anyone.

‘Showtime’ has wanted to get another crack at the championship since losing the WBC title to unified champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (27-0, 21ko) back in 2019. In one of the most stacked divisions in boxing, not only has he climbed back into title contention, but he is a mandatory challenger for the WBC, IBF, and WBO.

This means that he has a direct line of sight of re-matching the unified champion and WBO champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (37-0, 28ko).

During an interview with Brian Custer of The Last Stand Podcast, he was asked who his next three choice fights would be. He dropped the names of all three champions in the division and elaborated on his belief in having a better chance of beating the WBA champion more than anyone else.

“If it’s up to me, Manny Pacquiao, Terence Crawford, and more than likely Errol Spence Jr.”

THE CASE FOR PACQUIAO

Porter currently has no ranking in the WBA. However, that has not deterred him from wanting to fight the Filipino senator. He also went into detail about his reasons for wanting the fight.

“For me, it’s a multiple of reasons, I think the number one reason is I think that I have the greatest chance out of all guys out there at beating Manny Pacquiao. I think that I have the opportunity to make the fight with Manny Pacquiao more exciting than anybody else out there in the welterweight division.”

“Of course, there is always the money that is linked to Manny Pacquiao; you can’t ignore that. But for me, I think that I have the best opportunity to beat him, and I also think that I have the opportunity to make it the most exciting fight whenever it does happen of the year. If it happens in 2021, it would be the fight of the year.”

One thing is for certain going into 2021: Porter is in the best possible position. The next time we see him in the ring, it will be for a championship.
