Claressa Shields confirms next opponent
If left up to her, undisputed middleweight champion Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (10-0, 2 KO’s) would be tangling with Lalia “She Bee Stingin” Ali (24-0, 21 KO’s) in her next outing. Sadly, it appears that bout will not happen next, nor will it be going down whatsoever. Not one not sit around moping about circumstances that did not go her way, Shields chose to quickly move on.
Having done so, she and her team were able to locate and secure her next opponent as she shared on the Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer. Shields does not currently know the specific September fight date. Yet, T-Rex can confirm that her next adversary will be undefeated IBF world super welterweight champion Marie Eve Dicaire (17-0, 0 KO’s).
“So my next fight is definitely against Marie Eve Dicaire, IBF world champion from Canada. She is 17-0, we’re going to be fighting mid-September, last week of September. We just waiting for SHOWTIME to give us the date and location and it’s a go. But that fight is definitely my next fight and then after that I would love to fight the winner of Hanna Gabriels and Raquel Miller.”
Despite having a flawless record, Dicaire will undoubtedly be viewed a drastic underdog going into the high profile prizefight. For one, her record suggests that she has reduced punching power. Further, the fight with Shields will be her first time competing outside of her native Canadian homeland.
