Shields Speaks on Saunders Suspension

When WBO world super middleweight champion “Superb” Billy Joe Saunders (29-0, 14 KO’s) recently disseminated a homemade tutorial on how to properly concuss nagging wives and girlfriends, it was poorly received. Horrified individuals on both sides of the pond quickly took to their social media accounts to chastise the unduly crass video.

One of the most visible amongst those admonishing his brand of humor was undisputed middleweight champion Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (10-0, 2 KO’s). Not only did Shields condemn Saunders’ post, she went so far as make her own counter video. In her short tutorial, she outlines for women how to dodge the punch that Superb was teaching and strike the waiting and available testicles.

NO BEEF HERE

Due to the lengths that she went to show her displeasure, there is a common perception that Shields holds a personal grudge against Billy Joe Saunders. Yet, while this may be a logical assumption, T-Rex assures that it is not the truth.

As a result of his foolhardy video, aside from the informal public revulsion, Saunders was formally punished when the BBB of C announced that they would be suspending him for an undetermined amount time. Despite feeling that he should have to pay some form of penance for his reckless actions, Shields did feel that the suspension was too harsh a reaction

“It just wasn’t funny, but do I think he should have been suspended? No, I think he should have issued an apology and maybe did some domestic violence stuff or whatever. I ain’t really sure but I do know he was out of pocket for that video and I feel bad for the woman who pissed him off to make that video.”

“…I didn’t really want to go live and make it a big deal, you know what I’m saying? People been putting our videos together saying, ‘oh Claressa got beef with Billy Joe or blah, blah, blah.’ No, I don’t! Did I like his video? No. Do I have a problem with him? No. He never said or did anything about me and I never did or said anything about him.”

“It’s more like that video was about domestic violence and beating up your girl and I don’t like any kind of abuse coming toward women, so it is what it is.”

YOU WEIRD AND STAY OUT OF POCKET, BUT WE COOL

Even in saying that she felt that the suspension was a bit too heavy handed, T-Rex did say that Saunders seems to have a penchant for eyebrow raising behavior. And she is also hypersensitive to the fact that he seems to prefer focusing his offensive humor toward females. Aside from keeping an eye on those type of activities, Shields assures that she harbors no ill-will toward Superb or his professional career.

“I don’t think Billy Joe is a bad guy at all, I think he goes through some things mentally, you know, as we all do. We all have our outbursts sometimes like he had the video where he was asking the poor person saying, ‘hey, how much money do I have to give you to blow my buddy’…that was a crazy video and then to see this one it was like, ‘dude what’s up with dude?’”

“He is always, like, doing something to a female and something about a female. It seems like this is the second time. I don’t know if he did more videos but I don’t know…hopefully his suspension is up by the time he got to fight.”

“But that’s all y’all, I just wanted to clear that up. I didn’t like the video, [I’m] cool with Billy Joe Saunders, wish him the best of luck. Don’t promote domestic violence and if a guy try to attack any woman hit him in the nuts, that’s it.”
