Claressa Shields and Alicia Napoleon throw shots!
Typically when people are on social media jaw-jacking, there is not much that should be expected. After they talk tough from the safety of their own homes, that is pretty much the extent of it.
However, when active professional fighters begin woofing on social media, there exists a real potential that the two may lock horns in real life.
This is what the current situation is between the undisputed middleweight champion Claressa “T-rex” Shields (9-0, 2 KO’s) and WBA super middleweight Alicia “The Empress” Napoleon (12-1, 7 KO’s). Over the past day or so, the two fistic-minded females have engaged in a fiery back and forth session.
Shields’ is certainly no stranger to chewing foes up in the ring and on these cyber streets! From her account, T-rex has tongue-lashed fellow fighters, both men and women, promoters and fans who have gotten a bit too far out of pocket. At the moment, it’s Napoleon who is the recipient of Shields harsh words.
THE RHETORIC
The whole ordeal appears to have started about a day ago on Shields’ timeline. There, she professed being indignant over an interview with boxing promoter Lou DiBella.
During the interview in question, DiBella apparently was trying to pump a potential fight between Alicia Napoleon-Espinosa and Shields. T-rex then accused Napoleon of already avoiding her and the other belt holding champions in her division.
Near a day later, the Empress responded by claiming that T-rex was spreading falsehoods. While she did not deny that there was an offer to fight, Napoleon said the money was laughable.
From there, Shields told her that she’d be paid according to her resume then proceed to call her a bunch of chumps, cowards and punk bitches. Since T-rex really began digging into her, Napoleon cooled out with her responses.
The two women are in the neighboring weight divisions of middle (Shields) and super middleweight (Napoleon-Espinosa). Although, Shields is also a former unified super middleweight champion.
Nonetheless even by her own admittance, Napoleon frequently fights at the catch-weight of 161lbs. Although, looking at her preferred catch weight, this would seem to make the fight easier to make rather than harder.
Only time will tell if the two will get in the ring to mix it up, but honestly speaking it looks like Shields is not taking all the tough talk too seriously.
If more materializes out of the gruff social media exchanges, 3kingsboxing will be there to bring you the latest updates.
