Claressa Shields returns on December 11

Two-division undisputed women’s champion Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (11-0, 2KOs) will return to the squared circle on December 11 in Birmingham, England. For Shields this will be her first fight as a professional outside of the United States. While she’s accustomed of fighting all over the world as an amateur, this is a different situation altogether. This pressurized occasion carries a lot at stake for the self proclaimed “GWOAT”.

Making her return even more highly anticipated is the fact that she’ll share the same card with her amateur rival and WBO middleweight champion Savannah “The Silent Assassin” Marshall (11-0, 9KOS). The expectation is that if both women win, the two will finally get to settle their amateur differences in 2022!

Shields hasn’t fought since easily outpointing Marie Eve Dicaire in March to become undisputed junior middleweight champion. She’s also started her professional mixed martial arts career where’s she’s currently 1-0. However, boxing is where she butters her bread. There’s no opponent yet confirmed for Shields. However, if we’re being honest, the fight should serve as nothing more than a tune-up.

STYLES MAKE FIGHTS

This fight with Marshall has the be potential to really stamp Shields as the face of women’s boxing. Although she’s extremely accomplished, the one criticism she’s always faced was regarding when she would finally face a formidable opponent on her level. Well people we may finally get that answer if she and Savannah Marshall win their December 11 fights!

With Marshall, you get a power-punching boxer with pinpoint accuracy. Shields, on the other hand, is athleticism at its best. These two womens’ styles will figure to mesh very well and provide a high intensity fight that could go down in women’s boxing history.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that these two handle their business in December.
