WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (26-0, 15ko) is gearing up to hopefully fight WBC silver titlist Joseph “Jo Jo” Diaz (32-1-1, 15ko). After a back-and-forth on social media, it seems likely they will finally fight.

THE LONG HISTORY OF HOW WE GOT HERE

The Dream has been trying to land a fight with either of his two WBC mandatory challengers. First, it was with Ryan Garcia, who won the mandatory slot against Luke Campbell in January. Garcia would turn his focus away from Haney and towards three-divisional champion Gervonta Davis. However, Garcia had to take some time off to deal with mental illness.

The WBC organization had no choice but to strip Garcia, and they ordered a fight between former champions Javier Fortuna and Jo Jo. Diaz would get the victory and immediately was calling for a fight with Haney. Moreover, fans thought a fight was going to happen as Haney and Diaz were on social media negotiating to fight live for November.

Well, things did not go according to plan as Diaz shifted gears and started looking at a fight with fellow Golden Boy stablemate Ryan Garcia. Fans were not particularly happy with this. Especially so, considering Garcia was returning from mental illness, and immediately being thrust into a high-profile fight.

However, Garcia pulled out of the fight due to an injury. This enraged Diaz, who went on a social media rant venting his frustration.

WILL THEY FIGHT THIS TIME?

Well, Haney took this opportunity to reschedule the fight with Diaz and both men once again negotiated on social media. Moreover, Diaz insisted the WBC champion sends a contract this time.

The Dream, looking to add pressure to Diaz this time around, has obliged the request of the WBC silver titlist. Furthermore, he made it known on social media that a contract has been delivered.
