Claressa Shields signs with Sky Sports!

Well it looks like undisputed junior middleweight champion Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (11-0, 2 KO’s) is taking her talents across the pond. In a bit of late breaking news, it’s been revealed that Shields has signed a television deal with Sky Sports. As a part of the new arrangement, Sky Sports is working with their promotional partners, Top Rank and BOXXER, to air a bevy of upcoming bouts in the UK. Along with T-Rex, Mikaela Mayer, Maiva Hamadouche and Olympian Caroline Dubois will all be televised live in the UK via Sky Sports. This new line-up will begin on October 2 when Chris Eubank Jr faces off with Sven Elbir in London.

MAKE THE DAMN FIGHT!

The deal is good news for Shields, who is promoted by Salita Promotions, because her global visibility is about to drastically increase. This great for fans because it brings the would-be showdown between Shields and WBO world middleweight champion Savannah “Silent Assassin” Marshall (10-0, 8 KO’s) that much closer. Along with Shields, Marshall is also a part of this new television package. These two have a history dating back to their amateur days. In fact, Marshall is the only person, in the amateurs or pros, to ever hand Shields a loss. Personally, Shields feels as though Marshall has been living off her name since that amateur encounter.

For her part, T-Rex has been open for a dustup with the Silent Assassin for years. Initially though, it was Team Marshall who was not so eager to hop in the ring. Recently, this dynamic has shifted a bit. Shields remains on board for a potential scrap and now Marshall and her crew are on the same page. Given that both want the fight and are talking about it publicly greatly improves the chance that it will happen. The fact that both women will now have their fights aired on the same network improves the likelihood of this fight taking place immeasurably.
