Ginjiro Shigeoka Wants to Settle Things with Daniel Valladares Once and for All
IBF strawweight champion Daniel Valladares (26-3-1, 15 KOs) will fight a rematch with Ginjiro Shigeoka (9-0, 7 KOs) on August 11 at the Edion Arena in Osaka, Japan. They previously fought on January 6 of this year. A clash of heads in round three left the defending champion in severe pain and unable to continue. The bout was ruled a no-contest.
Valladares captured the IBF belt with a split decision victory over Rene Cuarto in July 2022. Shigeoka’s last outing was in April 2023, when he stopped Cuarto in nine to become the IBF Interim champion. Featured in the 3kingsboxing.com Prospect Watch series, Shigeoka has received a lot of hype in his country of Japan.
ITCHING FOR ANOTHER SHOT
A press event occurred in Tokyo, Japan to announce Valladares – Shigeoka II. In addressing the boxing media, the challenger talked about how he wants to leave no doubts this time.
“I want there to be a clear winner and loser between us. One champion is enough. I’m confident of winning.”
This author felt the Japanese fighter was in control at the time of the stoppage and was on his way to victory in their first battle. Shigeoka is eager to get another shot at Valladares. During the press event to announce the rematch, the IBF champion said he wants to win by knockout.
