Mikaela Mayer Adds Chantelle Cameron to Her Big Fight Hit List

Former unified junior lightweight champion Mikaela Mayer (18-1, 5KO) remains determined to secure high-profile matchups in the world of boxing. She has compiled a list of potential opponents, including some familiar rivals, who would make for captivating fights. However, Mayer emphasizes that her primary preference is to face undisputed junior welterweight champion, Chantelle “Il Capo” Cameron (18-0, 8KO).

Mayer is actively seeking a world title shot and currently holds the position of WBC lightweight mandatory challenger to undisputed champion Katie Taylor. Nevertheless, she may have to exercise patience as Taylor has two rematch clauses in her contract, one with undisputed featherweight champion Amanda Serrano and another with Cameron.

On May 20, Il Capo successfully defended the undisputed crown against Taylor which pushed her name to the top of Mayer’s list.

MAYER TARGETS CHAMPIONS IN OTHER WEIGHT DIVISIONS

There is no shortage of exciting matchups available for the former unified champion. In an interview with YSM Sports Media , Mayer revealed a list of names featuring world champions in different weight classes.

“Definitely Chantelle Cameron right now because I think that’s the most realistic fight. Katie Taylor, but I don’t know how realistic it’s looking. Obviously, I want my rematch with [undisputed junior lightweight champion Alycia] Baumgardner.”

“Then I would love to go up to the next weight and take on [WBA junior middleweight champion] Terri Harper, my old rival . . . maybe even [IBF welterweight champion] Natasha Jonas.”

On April 15, Mayer claimed the WBC Interim title following her victory over late replacement Lucy Wildheart. With her impressive track record, Mayer is a formidable opponent capable of winning any of the aforementioned fights.
