Errol Spence Out to Prove He is the Best
In boxing, maintaining one’s confidence and self-belief is of the utmost importance. It’s critical that fighters earnestly view themselves as the best in their division to have the proper mind state through camp and the fight itself. However, it’s just as important that boxers remain grounded and realistic.
For his upcoming showdown with WBC world welterweight champion Shawn “Showtime” Porter (30-2-1, 17 KO’s), IBF world welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence (25-0, 21 KO’s) seems to have a firm grasp on both. The red hot unification bout will take place September 28 and will air live on FOX ppv.
In lead up to the notable prizefight, both Spence and Porter have traded a bunch of sharp words and threats. Porter vows to make the Truth uncomfortable and to emerge the victor, by whatever means. Spence, on the other hand, has doggedly stuck to his story that he will secure the win by knockout.
While both men are determined, each understands that they are getting in the ring with a monster. They must be in the best shape of their lives if they are going to make good on their promises. This healthy respect comes from acknowledging that the opponent has a great deal of talent and craft of their own.
Despite Spence repeatedly saying that he has, by far, the more diverse skill set, he knows that Showtime is a world class athlete. Not only is he a world class athlete, he is one known to break down his opponents mentally and physically. Although, the fearsome reputation that Porter has earned is a huge part of why Spence wants to fight him. Well, that and his WBC green belt! The Truth knows that if he show clear separation between himself and Porter, that will stand as a one of his best career wins to date. It would also put the rest of the division on notice.
“He is the bull of the division. He’s the guy that got a ton of heart, coming forward, always having people on retreat. You know, running around the ring and things like that. So, I mean I want to show the boxing world and certain guys in the division that, you know, I’m the best in the division and I’m the most dominant in the division, so it all starts with Shawn Porter.” ~Errol Spence Jr, IBF world welterweight champion
Luckily for the fans, we only have one more week to wait for this tantalizing prizefight!
