Errol Spence takes another shot at Keith Thurman!
The consensus number one welterweight in the world and unified champion Errol Spence Jr (26-0, 21KOs) took a jab at his welterweight counterpart and former unified champion Keith Thurman (29-1, 22KOs).
In a social media post from Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), a picture of the top five welterweights was revealed. The rankings followed Errol Spence, Terence Crawford, Manny Pacquiao, Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter.
PRETTY ACCURATE RIGHT?
Spence would comment his displeasure with the list saying the following.
“Why Thurman on here?”
Obviously there’s no love between the two men as Spence constantly called for a showdown with the previously unbeaten fighter from Florida to no avail.
With the rolls now reversed and Spence in the driver’s seat, the unified champion is the most wanted guy in the division along with WBO champion Terence Crawford (36-0, 27KOs).
One exception notably missing from the top 5 welterweight rankings is former two-division world champion Danny Garcia (35-2, 21KOs).
One may argue that he should be ranked in the top five instead considering he’s won his last fight, while Thurman and Porter lost their respective bouts.
However a counter argument can be made that both the loses (Thurman to Pacquiao and Porter to Spence) were highly competitive fights and are more valuable than the win of Garcia had over Adrian Granados (20-8-2, 14KOs). Those fights were also title bouts that could’ve went either way.
Additionally, Garcia lost to both Thurman and Porter previously.
Regardless of how Spence feels about Thurman’s standing at welterweight, the former champion is still a formidable threat to all welterweights.
2020 is primed for a fantastic year for the division. Let’s hope these guys attempt to face each other in the ring instead of talking about it over social media!
