Errol Spence Wonders If Yordenis Ugas is Less Hungry Due to American Luxuries

When cataloguing the origin of the bulk of serious boxers, one will discover that most come from hardship backgrounds. For this group, the sport provided an emotional outlet that often led to financial income. With this being the case, frequently when individuals reach a never before achieved financial status, they become blinded by the attention, compliments and new lifestyle. Many will argue that heavyweight fighter Andy Ruiz is the poster boy for this brand of downfall.

Yet, now IBF and WBC welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (27-0, 21 KO’s) is wondering if his next opponent, Super WBA welterweight champion Yordenis “54 Milagros” Ugas (27-4, 12 KO’s), may fall victim to this traditional pitfall. The two are set to collide in a highly anticipated unification match on April 16 in the belly of the AT&T Stadium located in Arlington, Texas. While the Truth is expecting the best version of Ugas, he realizes that he may stumble upon a happy surprise.

“He is definitely serious and motivated but he has gotten a touch of the American dream, so to say. We don’t know if he is just as hungry as he was, but I definitely think that he is hungry. He did train hard for this fight and he’ll come prepared and ready; but we don’t how he’ll be with money in his pocket.”

MYSTERY ON BOTH SIDES

In his last in-ring mission, on August 21, 2021, Ugas collected his career best scalp when he toppled boxing living legend Manny Pacquiao. The victory catapulted him into a new level of fame and financial ability. So, it will be revealing to see how Ugas handles himself in this upcoming bout with the added distractions.

By the same token though, this will be the first time that Spence fights in a full-fledged combat since undergoing eye surgery to repair a damaged retina. And just as The Truth has his speculations about 54 Milagros, Ugas certainly will have his antennae up checking on how Spence’s eye holds up. Yet, no matter how the events unfold in the ring, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news.
