Fulton vs Leo on August 1 on Showtime
Thus far, the return of televised boxing has been the monopolized operation of Top Rank promotions. However, that will all change this August 1. That is when, as reported to the Athletic, super bantamweight boxer Stephen “Cool Boy Steph” Fulton (18-0, 8 KO’s) will face the highly ranked Angelo “El Chinito” Leo (19-0, 9 KO’s).
Upping the ante on the bout, Leo and Fulton will fight for the WBO Super Bantamweight title being vacated by the current champion, Emanuel “Vanquero” Navaratte (31-1, 27 KO’s). It will be the first opportunity at a world title for both undefeated boxers. The high-stakes title fight will serve as the main event of SHOWTIME Boxing’s return to television.
Obviously, it turns out that Fulton was correct when he predicted that his next bout would be with Angelo Leo. El Chinito, a Mayweather promoted fighter, had a relative busy 2019 by competing on four separate occasions. Cool Boy Steph will mark Leo’s third undefeated fighter on his resume, while the Albuquerque-native will stand as Fulton’s eighth.
Stephen Fulton was last in the ring earlier this year, on January 1, and picked up a solid unanimous decision win over Arnold “Arni” Khegai (16-1-, 10 KO’s).
Clearly, both Fulton and Leo will be eager to get in the ring and try to capture the WBO strap.
