Shakur Stevenson Promises to Deliver for the Hometown Kids of Newark, New Jersey
On September 23, unified 130-pound champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (18-0, 9KOs) will put his titles on the line against Robson Conceiçao (17-1, 8KOs). He’ll be doing so in front of his hometown crowd of Newark, New Jersey at the Prudential Center. This will be the second time he’s fought in his hometown of Newark, New Jersey as a professional. His first time was against Alberto Guevara, whom he stopped in three rounds back in 2019.
Stevenson, a very proud guy, is also aware of the influence he has over the youth. With his ever-growing popularity and notoriety, he wants to inspire the kids that look up to him to chase greatness.
SETTING THE EXAMPLE
At the kickoff press conference for his fight with Conceiçao, Stevenson shared message for the kids.
“For all y’all kids, y’all got to keep trying to be great, trying to strive to be better, and I want to be an example for y’all. I’m going to make sure I do my part and I’m gone come September 23 in shape, ready to fight and I’m going to put on a show for the kids and for the city of Newark. I want to give y’all a hell of a performance. So like I said, I’m going to do my part and come in shape.”
The 25-year-old is a budding superstar with a whole city backing him. Usually, that type of support can be confused with pressure, which some young fighters simply can’t handle. However, it seems as if Stevenson is built differently. His hard work, natural ability, and confidence seem to put him in a different category than that of his peers. The young fighter seems to have all the motivation he needs to continue his success. On September 23, we’ll see if he can deliver the entertaining performance he promised against a very good fighter in Conceiço.
