Shakur Stevenson Wants To Know If Schofield Can Take The Heat

WBC lightweight champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (22-0, 10KO) gives top challenger Floyd Schofield (18-0, 12KO) respect for taking the fight. However, he claims that Schofield will get spanked on fight night.

Fearless would rather be taking on Mexican fighter Williams “Camaron” Zepeda. However, Camaron suffered an injury, which led to Stevenson looking toward Schofield. The two combatants will enter the ring on February 22.

Despite never fighting anyone on the WBC champions level, Schofield is full of confidence. Several fans and pundits believe the undefeated challenger is taking on more than he can handle. Nonetheless, the young challenger deserves respect for taking a fight of this magnitude so early in his career.

THE CHAMPION HAS A QUESTION FOR THE CHALLENGER

While speaking with Queensberry Promotions, Stevenson didn’t hesitate to give Schofield his flowers but made it clear the young man would be taking a loss.

“You gotta give respect to the little kid. This little kid thinks he can beat me, he’s been calling out my name all the time…let’s see if he can handle the pressure, the hype, and the lights. I want to see.”

“Can he take the heat? That’s all it comes down to can he take the heat?”

“Truthfully, he’s a great young fighter, but I’m going to spank him. I gotta take my belt off. I gotta spank the little kid.”

In fairness, Schofield is a good young talent, whose confidence in beating Stevenson stems from a past sparring session. However, the one thing we learn very quickly is that it’s a whole different animal in a real fight with titles on the line.

As the fight date approaches boxing fans are curious to see if Schofield can back up all the talk or if he will crumble under the pressure.
