Shakur Stevenson Is Confident Teofimo Lopez Won’t Duck Out
WBC lightweight champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson and WBO junior welterweight champion “The Takeover” Teofimo Lopez could happen in 2026. This is a fight that needs to happen, considering all the public back-and-forth that has taken place on social media.
It’s no secret Fearless has been on the hunt to get The Takeover in the ring. In the beginning, it seemed as if Lopez wasn’t in a hurry to make the fight a reality. They’ve repeatedly traded verbal shots on social media, with the WBO champion not looking to commit to a fight.
Well, it seems something has changed, as Stevenson claimed the fight will more than likely happen, in an interview on The Ariel Helwani Show. The New Jersey native is optimistic that Lopez won’t try to avoid making the fight.
“I think that once the business people is ready to seal the deal, I think that the deal will be done. The fight is happening. I don’t think he’s going to duck the fight.”
The sport of boxing needs to capitalize on the momentum it received from the Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford mega-fight. A showdown featuring two young champions like Stevenson and Lopez is what the sport needs, going into 2026.
