Shakur Stevenson-Rafael Rivera possible for June 9
It appears that June will indeed be the month that boxing returns to action after being ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic.
WBO featherweight champion Shakur “fearless” Stevenson (13-0, 7KOs) could be taking on Rafael Rivera (27-4-2, 18KOs) on June 9. Currently, it looks like the venue will be in Las Vegas.
NOT SURPRISING NEWS!
This news comes as no surprise, as Bob Arum has been on record stating that he would be starting to stage fights in June. We reported on Arum stating plans to resume boxing in June.
Stevenson, a rising star, has been eager to fight since the cancellation of his scheduled fight against longtime featherweight contender Miguel Marriaga (29-3, 25KOs). That fight was originally scheduled for March 14 in New York.
To help combat the spread of COVID-19, it is expected that this match will not have fans in attendance. It’ll be interesting to see how this affects the fighters and their performances.
