Shakur Stevenson Hits At Teofimo Lopez For Using Race Angle
WBC lightweight champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (22-0, 10KO) went after WBO junior welterweight champion “The Takeover” Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13KO) for playing the race card because of low event sales.
Lately, The Takeover has become infamous for his racial comments earning him the tag of the most irritating fighter. So it’s not surprising to anyone that he still doesn’t get it in a recent video that has gone viral.
“I fought two white boys, beat both of them. I need a black boy now. It ain’t on some racist shit. No, it’s to unite all of us together remember that.” – Teofimo Lopez
It’s interesting how Lopez purposely ignored mentioning his lost to one-time unified champion George Kambosos. Nonetheless, Stevenson quickly took to social media to respond making it clear why Lopez is using the race angle.
“Man using race because he doesn’t sell. Image not be able to sell more than 5k in yo home city I feel for u blood.” – Shakur Stevenson
HE IS STILL DELUSIONAL
It isn’t the first time Fearless has gone after Lopez as they seem to have developed a small rivalry. He took exception to the WBO champion’s statement that multi-divisional champion Vasyl Lomachenko could beat him.
Lopez used a commonly known racist phrase when comparing champions Terence Crawford and Gervonta Davis to monkeys. So these recent comments only prove that he hasn’t learned anything.
If a black fighter is what Lopez is looking for then Stevenson has no issues with fighting. When asked about stepping into the ring with his former Top Rank stablemate, he didn’t hesitate to call for the fight. Lopez on the other hand stated the fight would never happen due to his respect for Stevenson’s manager J. Prince.
The reality is until Lopez suffers some form of punishment for his remarks then there is no reason to believe he’ll stop or even apologize.
