Subriel Matias Calls Out Division Rivals in Fiery Social Media Post
IBF junior welterweight champion Subriel “El Orgullo de Maternillo” Matias (20-1, 20KO) took to social media, with a bold challenge towards champions Devin Haney (WBC), Rolando Romero (WBA), Teofimo Lopez (WBO), and top contender Ryan Garcia.
When discussions about the junior welterweight division arise, Matias is often neglected, citing the old narrative of high risk and low reward as a factor.
THE CHAMP IS HERE
In a video posted on social media, the champion passionately proclaimed himself as the division’s best, while directing some strong words at Haney (31-0, 15KO), Romero (15-1, 13KO, Lopez (19-1, 13KO), and Garcia (24-1, 20KO).
“The real best 140 is here. No Teofimo, pussy. No Ryan, who’s Ryan. No Haney, chicken. No Rolly, he’s a joker, and the world knows it. So, what happened, I’m here. Who wants to fight with me? Who?”
Matias didn’t hold back in accusing them of avoiding a fight, and he made his sentiments clear by tagging their names in a tweet.
THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME
This isn’t the first instance of Matias expressing frustration about potential matchups. Earlier expectations of a bout with Teofimo Lopez in 2024 never materialized.
Matias had previously referred to Haney as a chicken in 2023. He stating that the WBC champion lacks the power for the division and tends to move a lot in the ring.
Since his only loss in 2020, Matias has been on an impressive streak, stopping his last four opponents, including avenging his only defeat in a rematch with Petros Ananyan. In his latest outing, he forced top contender Shohjahon Ergashev to quit on the stool.
As of now, there has been no response from the mentioned fighters regarding Matias’s callout. The boxing community awaits their reactions in what promises to be an intriguing storyline.
