Barrera Has Options
This pastSaturday, Sullivan Barrerawon an unanimous decision against Felix Valera and now is in the driver seat for his next career move. Barrera is the mandatory challenger for WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol now and reports have circulated that an agreement has been reached for the two to fight in March 2018. However, Barrera could be given an option to face stablemate and newly crowned WBO Champion Sergy Kovalev.
Kathy Duva, head of Main Events, who co-promotes and has a business relationship with Bivol is holding all the cards in this three way light heavyweight cluster. She also has network support with HBO along with a venue as Madison Square Garden is said to be on board. Duva recently said they will offer Barrera both fights, either Bivol or Kovalev and it will be Barrera’s decision who he wants to face next.
Barrera is in a very good position and seems to be in a good place mentally so these next few days will be critical. Team Barrera will sit down with Kathy Duva and talk, regardless of who Barrera chooses to face if all goes well we will see all three combatants back in the ringMarch 3, 2018on HBO. The light heavyweight division appears to be primed for a good run in 2018.
