Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker is a retired American boxer who was a four division champion and regarded as one of the most defensively sound fighters of all-time.

In a 17 year career, he compiled a record of 40-4-1 with 17 knockouts. He shared the ring with names such as Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, Roger Mayweather, Felix Trinidad, Greg Haugen, Jose Luis Ramirez, Azumah Nelson, Oscar De La Hoya, and Buddy McGirt to name a few.

For his accolades, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2007.

He died tragically from being struck by an automobile on July 15, 2019.
