Teofimo “El Brooklyn” Lopez is an American-born Honduran boxer campaigning in the Lightweight division. He is the 2015 National Golden Gloves and Olympic Trial Gold medalist before entering the 2016 Olympics. Although he would lose in the first round, his reputation as a amateur was known and followed him into the pro-ranks.
By July 2018, Lopez quickly became one of the most exciting prospects in boxing. He stopped respected contender William Silva in six rounds in just his tenth pro bout. This was something even then-top undefeated contender Felix Verdejo was unable to do in his fight against Silva. Furthermore, his outward confidence he could easily defeat then top pound-four-pound (P4P) fighter and three-division champion Vasiliy Lomachenko had people paying attention to him.
In December 2019, he won his first world title after stopping IBF champion Richard Commey in two rounds. The win immediately setup the fight he had been asking for his entire pro career against Lomachenko. After getting his wish granted, he followed up by backing up his words as he defeated Lomachenko by Unanimous Decision ten months later. In the process, he instantly became a top ten P4P fighter as the new unified champion at Lightweight.
