Tank Davis Counters Oscar De La Hoya’s Claim to Having The Top PPV Draw

Even though it has been a full week since his last prizefight, Regular WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (29-0, 27 KO’s) is still landing clean shots. This time, however, his snapback lands on Golden Boy Promotions founder Oscar De La Hoya over claims about Ryan Garcia.

Back on April 22, Tank dropped Ryan Garcia in the second and stopped him with a body shot in the seventh. The highly anticipated duel pit the two immensely popular fighters against one another in one of the year’s biggest events. Ahead of the match, it was openly speculated that their two combined fan bases would be a sensational union at the box office. Once all the dust had settled, this turned out the case.

Davis versus Garcia significantly outsold any other boxing pay-per-view card in the last several years. Eager to take credit for this phenomenon, Oscar De La Hoya swiftly transcribed credit to Garcia. Clearly, Davis felt otherwise as he offered a wordless rebuttal on his Twitter feed.

There is no question that the Garcia versus Davis fight card was such a smashing success because both guys were on the ticket. Yet, going forward, it will be revealing to see what type of numbers they can attain.

THIS LITTLE LIGHT O’ MINE!

Despite losing, Garcia handled himself well for a large portion of the bout and certainly didn’t sustain any real beating in the ring. In the aftermath of his first professional loss, Ryan Garcia declared that he will be going up in weight. If he remains true to this path, he has a good number of notable names to square-off against. With pugilists like Josh Taylor, Teofimo Lopez and WBC super lightweight champion Regis Prograis populating the division, Garcia has quite a few lucrative matches to mull over.

The same is true for Davis at 135. Tank still has tremendous names such as Vasiliy Lomachenko, Shakur Stevenson or undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney to potentially pen bouts with. For the time being though, both fighters can enjoy the ticket sales and overwhelming viewership that their event produced. Only Tank will be able to move forward with the victory though. Yet, it will be interesting to see how effectively the two men continue to wield their star power moving forward.
