Tank Davis Surprised by his Own Power in Hector Luis Garcia Stoppage

For as long as the fight lasted, WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (28-0, 26KO) was earning his money against WBA ‘regular’ junior lightweight champion “The Android” Hector Luis Garcia (16-1, 10KO). The Baltimore power puncher was impressed with his own power after learning why Garcia declined to continue the fight.

Davis announced the fight against the Dominican native in preparation for Ryan Garcia, and many fans called it a tune-up fight. During the build-up, Tank did not view it as such and acknowledged that The Android was a tough opponent.

THE PUNCH THAT ENDED THE FIGHT

Tank has been showing different levels to his game over the last three fights. Moreover, he is slowly transitioning from a power puncher to being more of a boxer. This was the theme in the early portion of the Garcia fight as Davis was forced to utilize his footwork and counterpunching. It was not until the eighth round that his power played a factor. A perfectly placed left hand resulted in Team Garcia ending the fight in the corner.

During the post-fight interview, Garcia explained that he was having vision issues coming into the ninth round. This explanation, however, has not come without some heavy scrutiny.

Upon learning the reason behind the stoppage, Tank responded on social media in awe of his power.
