Demetrius Andrade Game to Challenge David Benavidez and Caleb Plant

On the undercard of Gervonta Davis-Hector Luis Garcia, two-division champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (32-0, 19 KOs) scored a ten-round unanimous decision victory over Demond Nicholson in his super middleweight debut. Next, the southpaw hopes to test his skill against the David Benavidez vs Caleb Plant winner.

WHAT COULD BE UPCOMING

Following the Nicholson win, Boo Boo was asked whether he was interested in fighting the winner of the March showdown between two-time champion David Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs) and one-time IBF champ Caleb Plant (22-1, 13 KOs). Boo Boo responded by saying the following:

“Yeah! The only way I can tell you if I’m the best is by fighting the best.”

NOW OR NEVER

At age 34 and coming off a fourteen-month layoff, there is no time to waste for the two-division champion. The ability and skills in the ring are unquestioned. But the fighter from Providence, Rhode Island has been unable to secure the big-name opponent and big-money fight he has desperately sought throughout his career.

Benavidez has shown an interest in fighting Andrade. If the money is right, one would think that Plant would be willing to face the Rhode Islander as well. All three have a business relationship with PBC. One would think the promotional powerhouse would not be against pitting Andrade against the winner of Benavidez – Plant in the summer or fall of this year.

2021 was a disaster of a year for Andrade. He was on the shelf due to injury and split ways with his former promoter, Matchroom. With a new promotional team in PBC and what he feels is renewed life, the southpaw has his fingers crossed that the big matchups finally occur.
