Taylor Open to Facing Baumgardner and Cameron in Ireland!
On October 29, undisputed lightweight champion Katie “KT” Taylor (22-0, 6KO) successfully defended the titles for the seventh time against Karen “Burbuja” Carabajal. Immediately following the bout, the undisputed champion called for a sequel with Amanda Serrano. Furthermore, she expressed having no issue fighting unified junior lightweight champion Alycia Baumgardner or unified junior welterweight champion Chantelle Cameron.
Taylor continues to dominate the division, taking on all challenges that cross her path. She took control of the fight early against the much taller opponent and landed the more accurate punches. When the final bell sounded, the undisputed champion won by unanimous decision.
THE CHAMP IS GOING BACK HOME TO IRELAND
In the post-fight interview, Matchroom Promoter Eddie Hearn was adamant Ireland, Taylor’s home country, was the next fight destination.
“For years and years, almost thirty years, Katie Taylor been treading path […] she’s an absolute legend in the sport of boxing. She’s an icon in the sport of boxing, and it’s time to return to Ireland.
Whoever it is, wherever it is, Ireland has to be next for Katie Taylor […] it’s time to give Ireland a sporting event it will never forget, and that is the return of their hero, Katie Taylor.”
One name that the undisputed champion has been focused on is Serrano. Hearn admitted they were trying to make the rematch for September in Ireland. However, they won’t be waiting on Serrano, and the next big fight must be in Ireland, regardless of the opponent.
TAYLOR IS OPEN TO FIGHTING BAUMGARDNER OR CAMERON
There were other names mentioned in case a sequel with Serrano doesn’t materialize. Specifically, the names of Baumgardner and Cameron. Taylor expressed having no issue with fighting either champion.
“I have no problem stepping in the ring with either of those girls. I’m ready to step in the ring with anyone […] I believe I am the best in the world.”
Cameron has a history with Taylor that goes back to their amateur days. She will be fighting for the undisputed junior welterweight crown against undisputed welterweight champion Jessica McCaskill on November 5.
Baumgardner is coming off a huge career victory over former unified champion Mikaela Mayer. Moreover, she took to social media and seems to be on board with a possible showdown with Taylor.
