Are Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor Headed to Ireland?
Back when the ink had dried on their contracts, it was a no-brainer that undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor (21-0, 6 KO’s) versus Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (42-2-1, 30 KO’s) was going to be a good fight. Few knew that it was going to be an instant classic though. This was made all the more sweet by the women headlining the high-profile card and fighting in the belly of the historic Madison Square Garden.
Then in true Hollywood fashion, the action was soaked in the deafening roar of the crowd as both combatants shed ample blood and traded momentum throughout. On two occasions the champion Taylor looked like she was ready to go, but found the internal will to soldier through the tough moments. For her bravery and skill, Taylor was awarded a split decision victory to retain her titles. Yet, the thrill of the battle has left fans and viewers salivating at the mouth for more! The question is, will we get it?
A JOURNEY HOME
Before the Irish champion and her Puerto Rican challenger could exit the ring, they were both questioned on whether or not they would like to run the fight back. Then again, in the post-fight conference, both fighters were posed the same query. In both instances Serrano said she was open to it but it was up to her team and whatever Taylor wanted to do. The lightweight champion stated that she would love to pen a rematch with Serrano.
“Absolutely, we all want to see the best versus the best and a rematch would be absolutely phenomenal. And if it was in Dublin, we could sell out Croke Park with 90,000 people and that would be unbelievable. We seen something special here tonight, imagine fighting in front of 80 or 90,000 people in Croke Park. Absolutely that can happen!”

FAIR PLAY
If a rematch was to take place, obviously location would be a huge factor. Yet, as Taylor and crew said, a showdown in her own native Ireland would be the most ideal for them. Which really is not that far-fetched considering Taylor did come over to the US to fight Serrano on her adopted New York home turf. Luckily, it doesn’t appear that Team Serrano has any intentions on giving any push back if a rematch was to be negotiated.
“Yeah, for sure, but obviously that’s up to Amanda. But I think everyone wants to see a rematch and you know they came to New York City. So if there is a rematch, I think it makes sense as a team to go to Ireland.”
Jake Paul, promoter for Amanda Serrano
So let’s hope that this mutual good will about staging a rematch persists and that, sooner rather than later, we are treated to an announcement for a late summer brawl in Ireland! Stay tuned.
