Team Golovkin Preparing To Move Forward

Venue change; O’Sullivan likely replacement

According to recent reports, in the likelihood the rematch between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez is cancelled, Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan is likely to be Golovkin’s replacement opponent. 3KingsBoxing.com reported last week that O’Sullivan was one of the possible replacements for Canelo. Possible Replacements Mentioned For Canelo

O’Sullivan, 27-2 19KO, is coming off a seventh round stoppage win over one-time prospect Antoine Douglas back in December. His two losses have come against Chris Eubank Jr, seventh round stoppage in December of 2015, and Billy Joe Saunders by decision in July of 2013.

If readers will remember, O’Sullivan was linked to Alvarez, prior to the two failed drug tests, as his possible September opponent. O’Sullivan is also represented by Golden Boy Promotions so it makes the transition a lot easier should the rematch be cancelled.

Team Golovkin has asked the Nevada State Athletic Commission for a possible change of venue and lead promoter as well. They’ve asked for the event to be relocated to the MGM Grand. [picture below]

As noted in the picture, the NSAC is scheduled to hear their request this Thursday according to executive director, Bob Bennett.
