Ted Cheeseman stops James Metcalf in eleven!
After a tumultuous two-years, “The Big Cheese” Ted Cheeseman is back at the top of the British level within the junior middleweight division. The bad luck started in February 2019 when he took the first loss of his career against undefeated Spanish sensation Sergio Garcia. The bout was for Garcia’s EBU title. He then followed up with a disputed draw against current WBA Inter-Continental junior middleweight champion Kieron Conway in June 2019. He then finished up 2019 with another loss in December against the undefeated Scott Fitzgerald.
That left Cheeseman 0-2-1 in the year of 2019 alone! In August 2020 Cheeseman returned to defeat Sam Eggington, but would not record another fight for the year. Going into the bout with Metcalf he was seen as the underdog.
He quickly turned that around in the ring as he won the majority of the rounds showing he can mix things up. He no longer was the one-dimensional, fight in a phone booth Cheeseman. He now displayed good boxing ability from the outside as well as off the back-foot. Then while on the verge of winning a decision, he capped things off with a HUGE left to stop Metcalf as the bell sounded to end the eleventh round!
On the undercard of Lawrence Okolie vs Krzysztof Glowacki, fans witnessed junior middleweight Anthony Fowler stop Jorge Fortea in three rounds. Word on the streets is Fowler would be matched up against the winner of Metclaf vs Cheeseman. Looks like we may have a fight!
