Teofimo Lopez Praises Abdullah Mason Following Dominant Win

In his third match-up of the year, rising lightweight contender Abdullah Mason (9-0, 8 KO’s) scored his fifth consecutive knockout. In the destructive performance, it only took Mason two short rounds to unravel and dismantle his outgunned foe, Alex de Oliveira. Thus far in his fledgling professional career, Mason has displayed great in-ring patience, a diverse arsenal and healthy boxing IQ. So much so that he has earned the endorsement of WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez (19-1, 13 KO’s).

THE SKY’S THE LIMIT

Technically speaking, it should come as no great surprise that Mason is turning heads as a professional. Trained by his father, Valiant Mason, Abdullah Mason has been garnering attention since his days as an amateur. In fact, he and his four other brothers are all oozing with talent.

Aside from The Takeover, the Mason brothers, and of course Abdullah, have perked the interest of boxing powerhouse Floyd Mayweather Sr and J Prince. This is probably why the influential and historic Top Rank Promotions were quick to sign Mason when he turned pro. Given all these accolades, barring the unforeseen, it would appear that Abdullah Mason has a very bright future in the sport.

Before beating Josh Taylor to become a champion in the 140-pound division, Lopez was a unified champion at lightweight. In fact. he was just one belt shy of being the undisputed champion of the division. Said to say, this makes his comments about Mason very high praise. It’ll be interesting to see how Mason’s career progresses from here. Yet, as busy as his team has been keeping him, there is a great chance he’ll be back in the ring before the end of the year. So let’s see what’s in store for the young gun from Cleveland, Ohio!
