Tony Aguilar Wins Alexander Rios Rematch By UD
In a high-octane rematch, lightweight prospect Tony Aguilar (12-0-1, 4KO) kept that undefeated record intact by defeating Alexander Rios (8-2, 3KO) a second time.
The Mexican versus Puerto Rican rivalry in boxing never disappoints and this fight was no different. It was clear that Aguilar had improved since their first encounter in 2023. He fought extremely well behind the jab and went to the body early.
Yet, Rios continued to press forward and bullrushed Aguilar into the corner and started landing hard shots to the body. The Puerto Rican showed a tremendous chin taking hard right hands before landing more body shots.
This fight broke out into a war as both men took turns landing hard hooks. Rios wasn’t going to wilt regardless of getting hit with hard right hands and continued to attack the body.
Aguilar returned fire landing hard right hands and some punishing body shots of his own.
As the fight was coming to a close, Aguilar took control of the battle with sheer volume. He went to boxing behind the jab and couldn’t miss with the right hand.
When the final bell sounded in the eighth round, fans cheered in appreciation for both men’s performances.
One judge scored it 78-76 with the other two judges scoring it 79-73 in favor of Aguilar. This version of the undefeated Mexican can potentially be a special fighter in the division.
