Tony Harrison Gets Passed Sergio Garcia With Relative Ease!
In his latest bout in the ring, super welterweight Tony “Super Bad” Harrison (29-3-1, 21 KO’s) claimed his twenty-ninth victory. The Detroit native accomplished this by defeating Sergio “El Nino” Garcia (33-2, 14 KO’s) by way of unanimous decision.
The match stands as Harrison’s first win since 2018. Two fights ago, Super Bad lost by eleventh round knockout at the hands of unified champion Jermell Charlo. Truthfully speaking, Harrison should have lost his last bout, with Bryant Perrella, instead of being gifted a near magical draw. With this win, however, Super Bad can now resume chasing a title shot.
For Garcia, this is a truly detrimental setback as he has now dropped back-to-back defeats. In his last tour of duty, he lost by unanimous decision to Sebastian Fundora who fought in this card’s main event. It wouldn’t be surprising if Garcia was not keen on coming back to the states as he has now suffered both his professional losses in the US. This match was actually only the third time that he’s competed outside of his native Spain.
ONE WAY ACTION
Following a choppy and largely uneventful opening round, Garcia charged out for the second and took the fight straight to Harrison. This allowed him to corral the former champion on the ropes and in the corner for most of the first half of the period. Over the second half of the round, however, Harrison began jamming Garcia with his jab, clicking with his counter punching and landing well off the back foot.
Once in control of the bout Harrison would never relinquish it. El Nino was game and never stopped trying to ferret his way back in the match but he simply lacked the necessary tools to do so. As a result, when the cards were won Harrison won a unanimous decision by way of 98-92, 100-90 (twice).
