Unified junior welterweight champion Josh Taylor signs with Top Rank!
In a stunning development, IBF/WBA World Super Lightweight champion and 3kingsboxing.com ranked #10 fighter Josh Taylor (16-0, 12KO) has signed a multi-fight deal with Top Rank Promotions.
Taylor made the announcement on social media stating
“I’m super excited to be announcing this for the next chapter of my career. I believe that Top Rank and ESPN have the platform to get me massive fights in America with the biggest names in boxing.”
The significance of this signing is massive. With this announcement, it opens up the doors for big fights for Taylor not only at Super Lightweight but also in the Welterweight division.
WBC/WBO Super Lightweight champion Jose Ramirez re-upped his deal with Top Rank in Dec. 2019. With Taylor now in the fold, that could very well mean the possibility of a fight between Ramirez and Taylor for undisputed status either later this year or early 2021.
There’s also the possibility of Taylor eventually moving up to fight WBO Welterweight Terence Crawford (also a Top Rank fighter) at some point down the road.
The prospect of a Taylor – Ramirez bout is mouthwatering and would satisfy all boxing fans. Even a bout against Crawford is a highly attractive one. It would present Crawford with one of his toughest challenges in recent memory.
Taylor made a huge splash on the boxing scene in 2019. In the World Boxing Super Series Tournament, he defeated Ivan Baranchyk in May 2019 to win the IBF title. Then in one of the fights of the year, he beat WBA World champ Regis Prograis to win the tournament and unify the WBA/IBF titles.
It looks like now in 2020, the fighter from Prestonpans, Scotland is making the next step in career and shooting for greatness. Stay tuned to 3KingBoxing for more details on this developing situation.
