Xander Zayas vs Jaron Ennis Could Be Right Around The Corner
Discussions over unified junior middleweight champion Xander Zayas vs WBA Interim champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis are now fair game as Top Rank’s signing with DAZN has opened this door.
The boxing news cycle has been buzzing with the announcement that Top Rank has finally landed a home. This legendary promotional company’s contract was not renewed with ESPN. Furthermore, they have been looking for a home for the past 8 months.
This is a fight that could occur, when considering the optics. With the Ortiz fight no longer an option, a world title fight has to be a top priority. Boots is the WBA interim titlist, which means the sanctioning body could order a fight with Zayas.
WHY THE FIGHT COULD HAPPEN
Ortiz’s legal battles with Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya have played factor here. Earlier in the week, Ennis took to social media with a message for the fans. The Philadelphian laid the blame on the fight not happening on Team Ortiz.

Zayas is coming off a huge win over Abass Baraou on January 31. During the post-fight interview, the Puerto Rican wasted no time in calling out Ennis, along with IBF champion Josh Kelly. It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that making the fight was a key component in Top Rank getting the DAZN deal.
In fact, boxing fans shouldn’t be surprised if it’s revealed that the two teams started talking once the Ortiz fight fell apart. Zayas is out to prove he is the best in the division, and Ennis needs a high-profile fight. This is a match made in heaven; two a battle of undefeated fighters in their prime is what the sport needs right now.
