Triller outbids Matchroom and Top Rank to host Teofimo Lopez’s vs George Kambosos Jnr!
In a shocker, Triller won the rights to host unified lightweight champion Teofimo “El Brooklyn” Lopez’ first defnse of his titles against IBF #1 contener George Kambosos Jnr! Triller is an American video making and social media service co-owned by billionaire businessman Ryan Kavanaugh.
The shocking part isn’t that Top Rank, who promotes Lopez, won’t be hosting the card. It’s the fact Kavanaugh paid $6 million to secure the rights to the mandatory fight. To be frank, this bout is not worth $6 million and even Top rank CEO Bob Arum would agree as his bid capped out at $2.3 million.

Fans who don’t follow boxing closely may be scratching their heads at the idea of a social media platform hosting a fight. However, back in November of 2020 Triller hosted the Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr five round exhibition that produced huge Pay-Per-View numbers. Also in April, they have a card featuring Youtuber Jake Paul taking on former Bellator welterweight champion and UFC fighter Ben Askren.
While they might not be overly experienced when it comes to boxing, it’s clear by their willingness to pay top dollar for a less than marquee fight, they’re here to carve out their spot in the sport.
LOPEZ IS THE REAL WINNER!
Lopez (16-0, 12KOs) has to be rejoicing at the fact he has a huge payday coming his way. Especially for what should be a “tune up” against Kambosos (19-0, 10KOs). As a three-title champion, Lopez wanted more money for this mandatory than Arum was willing to pay. This led to the bout going into purse bid and the shocking result. This will no doubt set the market price for Lopez moving forward as bigger fights come his way.
There’s currently no date or location set for the fight. 3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor this story and provide updates as they become available.
