Tim Tszyu Calls Out Jermell Charlo!
While competing in the iconic Dignity Health Sports Park, the heavy-handed Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (35-1-1, 19 KO’s) beat WBO 154-pound champion Brian Castano. With the victory, in a heavily anticipated immediate rematch, Charlo became the undisputed super welterweight champion. This is the first time that a male fighter has achieved this in the modern four-belt era. Certainly this was a glorious moment for Iron Man and his team.
Yet, with boxing being the cutthroat sport that it is, it did not take long before the sharks started circling. Before the undisputed champion could dress and leave the arena, he was already receiving call-outs. One of those call-outs came from top 154-pound contender Tim “Soul Taker” Tszyu (21-0, 15 KO’s). Ranked at #1 (WBO), #2 (WBC) and #3 (IBF), Tszyu is looking to take full advantage of his strategic standings with the sanctioning bodies.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?
Tszyu is himself coming off a great win over Terrell Gausha on March 26, which stands as his best professional victory to date. It was also his first match contested in the United States. Despite headlining numerous big time shows in his native Australia, it was important for the Soul Taker to matriculate into this new fighting market. In his estimation, he will not develop into the truly great boxer, with the legacy that he seeks, without displaying his dominance in the American market.
It will be interesting to see how Charlo responds to the call to fight by Tszyu. Technically speaking, the cards are not exactly falling in Soul Taker’s favor. This is because when questioned on who he would face if victorious over Castano, Charlo indicated that he would lean toward his IBF mandatory challenger who happens to be Bakhram Murtazaliev. No matter how this matter unfolds, 3Kings Boxing will be on the scene to report the news.
