Who Faces Gabriela Fundora After Marilyn Amaya?
When unleashed against her latest opponent, undisputed flyweight champion Gabriela “Sweet Poison” Fundora (16-0, 8 KO’s) systematically broke down #1 (WBO and IBF) ranked Mariyln “La Mexicana” Amaya (19-1-1, 3 KO’s) en route to a seventh round TKO. Gabriela “La Chucky” Alaniz and Adriana Thalia Pineiro could be next on the chopping block.
With Amaya out of the way the eternal question in boxing looms anew: who’s next? Of the available candidates, #1 (WBC) Alaniz (16-2, 6 KO’s) is itching for a shot at Sweet Poison. The two have history, having already fought back on November 2, 2024 where Alaniz lost and subsequently surrendered her WBO and WBC straps.
Since then, La Chucky has bounced back with a unanimous decision win over Graciela Aguilar this past March 8. While Alaniz’s motivation and desire may be keen, given she stopped her, it is unknown if Fundora would want a rematch at this time.
Another option is #2 (WBA) ranked Uruguay boxer Pineiro (8-0, 1 KO). The undefeated fighter is fresh off a March 8 unanimous decision win over Daiana Ortiz. Yet, as a detractor, Pineiro has never fought outside of her native Uruguay and her resume of opposition leaves a whole lot to be desired.
Therefore it will be interesting to see in what direction the undisputed champion leans in with her next opponent selection.
