Oleksandr Usyk officially made WBO heavyweight mandatory over Dillian Whyte!
3kingsboxing.com has learned that former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleaksandr Usyk has been mandated by the WBO as the next mandatory challenger to the winner of Ruiz-Joshua 2.
Usyk’s super champion status at cruiserweight gave him the nod over #1 contender Dillian Whyte. Whyte’s team argued their case as to why their fighter should be the mandatory instead. Usyk should be making his heavyweight debut later this year.
This official ruling places him in prime position for a huge showdown with the winner of the aforementioned Ruiz-Joshua rematch.
With his path to become a two division world champion now clear it’s only a matter of time before we get to see him in some big fights at heavyweights.
As for Whyte, this is another blow for him as he’s been long overdue a title opportunity by the WBC. However, he shouldn’t be too disappointed, as it appears he’ll finally get a shot at Wilder. The WBC will likely name the winner of Whyte vs Rivas as the WBC mandatory.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
