Oleksandr Usyk Ices Talks of Fighting Wilder Until After Tyson Fury Bout
Since unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KO’s) called him out to fight, Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (32-0-1, 23 KO’s) has had a lot to say. The WBC heavyweight champion has questioned Usyk’s heart and motives and stated that he was doubtful that the bout would happen.

This was all set-in motion when Usyk insisted that their bout would not take place until 2023. There was even a brief period when it was believed that Usyk was looking to dance with one-time WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Many in the boxing world worked themselves into a lather over this would-be fight, yet the Ukrainian wanted to be very clear and erase any confusion surrounding Wilder in a recent interview with SecondsOut.
“When I was asked in an interview who is the fighter I would ‘also’ like to fight, I mentioned Deontay Wilder. And now many people try to say that I claimed my next opponent is Deontay Wilder; no, it’s not true! My next opponent is Tyson Fury, I claim this now. But when I get rid of Tyson Fury, after I defeat him, I will be able to discuss that with Deontay.”
With all the conflicting stories flying around, it is very good that the Ukrainian took the time to put everything in its proper place. Now the ball is back in Fury’s court, so we will just have to wait and see if The Gypsy King can take care of business when he battles Chisora on December 3.
