Oscar Valdez Making Long-Awaited Return In Adam Lopez Rematch!
Two-division world champion Oscar Valdez (30-1, 23 KOs) will get back into action on May 20 as he will have a rematch with Adam Lopez (16-4, 6 KOs) on May 20 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bout will occur on the undercard of the lightweight showdown between undisputed champion Devin Haney and Vasyl Lomachenko.
It’s Valdez’s first bout since suffering the only defeat of his pro career – a unanimous decision loss to two-division champion Shakur Stevenson in April 2022. Valdez and Lopez previously fought in November 2019, where Valdez overcame a second-round knockdown to stop Lopez in round seven. At the time, Lopez said he badly wanted a rematch. Three and a half years later, he gets his opportunity.
PLENTY IS ON THE ON THE LINE
Should Valdez win the rematch, his next fight is a showdown against reigning WBO junior lightweight champion Emanuel Navarrete. Valdez and Navarrete were to fight on February 3 for the vacant WBO 130-pound title. Unfortunately, Valdez had to pull out of that bout due to a rib injury. Navarrete went on to score a ninth-round stoppage over substitute opponent Liam Wilson to win the then-vacant title.
Lopez is a solid fighter. However, he is coming off a ten-round unanimous decision loss to Abraham Nova in January 2023. So, the motivation should be at a peak. Not only does Lopez want to get back on the winning track, but he wants to gain his measure of vengeance against Valdez.
