Oscar Valdez brings in Eddy Reynoso as new trainer; Manny Robles out
The WBO featherweight champion is currently recovering from a broken jaw he sustained in his title defense against former champion Scott Quigg. Nonetheless, he has decided to shake things up.
While inching closer to a return, he decided to let long-time trainer Manny Robles go. There were some who felt that Valdez had regressed in his last few fights and thought a change would get him back on track.
Apparently, he agreed with that sentiment; bringing in Reynoso (who trains Canelo Alvarez) may be the change he needs.
Valdez, who is expected to return in early 2019, said the following regarding the change:
“I want to thank Manny Robles and his whole team for everything they have done for me over the last few years. But, like everything in life, changes are sometimes needed to move forward. I am very grateful to them for their friendship and all they have taught me,”
At 27, Valdez is tremendously talented with the ability to box and punch. Hopefully this change will recapture the excitement boxing fans and pundits had for him just a couple of years ago.
