Josue Vargas dominates Kendo Castaneda
Josue “The Prodigy” Vargas (18-1, 9KOs), seeking his second consecutive victory inside the bubble, would face a tough Kendo Castaneda (17-3, 8KOs).
Vargas, a rising southpaw junior welterweight, would come out clicking on all cylinders. Utilizing his hand speed, combination punching and footwork he would jump out to a quick lead. The second was a big round for Vargas. He would drop Castaneda with a beautiful straight left hand that brought a smile to his opponent, who was clearly surprised by the punch.
Continuing to unleash punishing shots to the head and body, Vargas would bloody the nose and mouth of Castaneda. Castaneda, however, would have his moments. He would come to life in the middle rounds landing some hard right-hands and body shots.
After ten rounds of dominating action, Vargas would notch his eighteenth win by way of a unanimous decision. The scores ready 100-90, 99-91 and 98-92. He appears to be on his way to contention in the junior welterweight division. However he needs to make some improvements in particular on defense, moving his head and staying off the ropes.
Even so, it appears to be a bright future for the self proclaimed “Prodigy”.
