Jessie Vargas promises “a fighter you’ve never seen before”
On Saturday February 29, Jessie “The Pride of Las Vegas” Vargas (29-2-2, 11 KO’s) will take on the challenge of Mikey Garcia (39-1, 30 KO’s) in The Ford Center located in Frisco, Texas. In this bout, for the vacant WBC welterweight diamond belt, Vargas is the seasoned welterweight while Garcia has only campaigned at 147lbs one other time.
In that single outing, against WBC and IBF world welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (26-0, 21 KO’s), Mikey Garcia lost every round and was thoroughly outclassed. Despite suffering such a comprehensive, one-sided defeat, Garcia is determined to show that he can be a serious threat to anyone in the division. This has only added fuel to Vargas’ fire.
As mentioned earlier, not only has Jessie Vargas resided at 147 for some time, he refuses to be relegated to stepping-stone status or crash-test dummy.
REBUILT AND REWIRED
To his credit, Vargas is not new to the either the big stage or top flight competition. The Las Vegas native has battled with Sadam Ali, Timothy Bradley, Adrien Broner and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao.
To his great chagrin however, outside of Sadam Ali, Vargas has only walked away with a loss or draw when fighting the best. Nevertheless, he intends on taking all that experience and proving to Garcia and the fans that he still has many tricks up his sleeve, as he told to SecondsOut.
“Man, I’ve been in some great fantastic fights, I’m a fucking fan friendly fighter! You all know what I am about…
…the way that I am coming into this fight, it’s a fighter you’ve never seen before, that’s how I feel. And the minute that bell rings, you’re going to be surprised by how I’m coming out, how powerful I’m going to be, how fast and how technical I am as well. The inside game and the outside game and that’s what we planned for, we had a terrific training camp and that’s why I feel so confident.”
READY TO FIGHT!
Yet no matter how skilled, or highly he thinks of himself, Jessie Vargas knows he has to go prove his case under the hot lights. Before he can truly advance his career to the next level, he has to go wreck shop in the squared-circle. Having accepted this reality, Vargas is itching to get in the ring with Garcia.
“I’m just ready to fight man! We are a couple days away from fight night. I’m ready to fight, I’m ready to win, I’m ready to bring back that WBC diamond belt championship back to Las Vegas. And I can’t wait! These fists are ready to fly, plain and simple!”
