Vasyl Lomachenko v Teofimo Lopez clash set!
According to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, WBA/WBO Lightweight champion Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (14-1, 10KOs) and IBF lightweight champion Teofimo “El Brooklyn” Lopez (15-0, 12KOs) will finally clash on September 19. This follows the cancellation of their initial May 30 unification date that was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
3kingsboxing.com previously reported in May that this fight would happen in September. At the time, however, there was no set date. With this confirmation, the two champions can finally circle the date on their calendars for their highly anticipated showdown. Lopez has been yearning for this fight for some time now. For Lomachenko, he welcomes the challenge of the young rising champion.
The location of this fight is still up in the air. The original agreement was for New York at the Madison Square Garden arena. However it’s now possible that the fight takes place in Las Vegas, which has been the host of all of Top Rank’s fight cards since boxing’s return on June 9.
With this news, fight fans should be happy even if they’re not allowed to witness this tremendous match-up in person.
