Vasyl Lomachenko vs Jamaine Ortiz Set: The Return Of Hi-Tech?

The return of three-division world champion Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (16-2, 11KOs) is set as he’ll take on rising lightweight contender Jamaine “The Technician” Ortiz (16-0-1, 8KOs). The fight will take place on a date TBD in October, which has been the target month of Lomachenko’s return as reported in July.

A FIGHT WITH TITLE IMPLICATIONS FOR LOMA

This is a very important fight for both men. Although, more so for Lomachenko, who’s looking to get his hands on undisputed lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (28-0, 15KOs) in 2023. With Ortiz, Lomachenko will look to continue his winning ways against an undefeated fighter coming of the biggest win of his career. This bout will be pivotal in determining the mental fortitude of Lomachenko as he takes the War on Ukraine in the ring with him.

A DANGEROUS FIGHT FOR LOMACHENKO?

When watching Ortiz, you see a talented young fighter with good boxing skills and speed. Known as The Technician, he’s a sharp shooter who has good timing and countering ability. He can also fight in either the southpaw or orthodox stance. However, is he truly ready for a fighter as gifted and experienced as Lomachenko? The majority will quickly say no, and that may be correct.

However, at 26 years old and coming off the biggest win of his career against a former world champion, along with Lomachenko having the weight of the War on Ukraine on his shoulders, it’s going to be interesting to see whether he rises to the occasion or wilts under the pressure.
