Vergil Ortiz knows Maurice Hooker fight won’t be easy!
Hard-hitting rising welterweight prospect Vergil Ortiz Jr (16-0, 16KOs) will be in with by far his toughest and most accomplished opponent in his young career when he takes on former WBO Junior Welterweight champion Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (27-1-3, 18KOs). The fight takes place on March 20 in both men’s home state of Texas live on DAZN. Ortiz will be making his 2021 ring debut after disposing of longtime welterweight contender Samuel Vargas in the seventh round in July of 2020. As for Hooker, he has not fought since stopping Uriel Perez in one round in December of 2019.

ORTIZ KNOWS THE DANGER HOOKER BRINGS!
Speaking to fighthype.com, Ortiz conceded to Hooker being his toughest opponent to date in his career. He said the following:
“This fight is going to be my toughest fight on paper for sure, and I think it’s going to be the toughest fight in the ring as well. He’s a former world champion, he’s in his prime, he’s 31 years old, he has long reach. He’s in it to win it, he’s not going to be there to lose, he wants to show that, he wants to prove to himself mostly that he’s still in it, he’s able to get a world title shot, and he’s going to go in to win.”
Ortiz, 22 years old, is the favorite heading into this matchup. However, it is clear by his comments he knows the danger Hooker possesses. While having a perfect record and a one hundred percent knockout ratio, Hooker is no slouch in the power department himself. He also has the edge in experience. Come March 20, we will see just how ready Vergil Ortiz is and how much Maurice Hooker has left in the tank.
