Frank Warren Says Fury vs Usyk Has Been Agreed Upon

According to WBC heavyweight champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury’s (32-0-1, 23 KO’s) promoter Frank Warren, of Queensberry Promotions, Fury has agreed in principle to a prizefight with unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KO’s).

Usyk is fresh off of a repeat win, and first defense of his titles over the challenge of Anthony Joshua.

Before the two could stage the highly anticipated do-over, there was already a great deal of attention placed on the winner facing Fury. There was so much longing for the bout with the Gypsy King because it would crown an undisputed heavyweight champion. So long as what Warren is saying all comes to fruition, it sounds like Team Usyk and Fury are already working well together.

“The fight’s made! Both parties want it, so there is no big problem getting this fight made.”

SO FAR, SO GOOD

Of course in life very few things go exactly according to plan, and this triple true in boxing. So, while Warren is being overly optimistic when he says the “the fight is made,” there are a couple of significant items that still need ironing out. Items such as where the fight will be and how the champions will be paid!!

“We had conversations before the fight, and their free-agents, [Usyk] manager[s] Alex [Alexander Krassyuk] and Egis [Klimas], there is no problem with either of them. They are good people. And there won’t be a problem making this fight.

“There will be no problem making this fight, it’s where it will take place that will be the issue and generating the income to satisfy both boxers.”

UNHATCHED CHICKENS

On the one hand, it’s excellent news that both of the principal characters want to stage this meaningful bout. At the same time though, having the date, location and funding up in the air is rather dubious. It’s hard to really even say this fight is ‘made’ with such vital elements unaccounted for.

Yet, at least it sounds like everything is moving in the right direction. So let’s hope that we receive more beneficial news in the near future, but, until we hear more, let’s just keep those fingers crossed.
