What’s Next for Rolando Romero?
Hard-hitting lightweight contender Rolando “Rolly” Romero (14-1, 12 KOs) has been unusually quiet outside the ring. Punctuating the curious case is that the self-proclaimed future pay-per-view star will end his 2022 campaign with only one fight under his belt.
Rolly was stopped in six rounds against multi-weight world champion Gervonta Davis back in May. This marked the first professional loss for the Las Vegas, Nevada native. Looking to rebound, he has called out unified welterweight champion Errol Spence, who simply laughed at the callout. Spence would also state that his fighter, Frank Martin, was simply better than Romero.

While it’s clear he won’t get into a fight with Spence, Rolly should get an opportunity against another top-level competitor. Sitting at number nine in the WBA junior welterweight standings, he has some work to do before he earns a title shot at 140. Possible matchups include tussles with Gary Antuanne Russell and Ryan Garcia.
Regardless of what’s next for Romero, his showing against Davis and his big knockout power will always keep him relevant. It’ll be interesting to see who he faces when he steps back into the ring in 2023.
