Errol Spence Jr Takes a Dig at Rolly Romero While Dismissing his Call-out

There is little doubt that lightweight boxer Rolando “Rolly” Romero (14-1, 12 KO’s) thinks very highly of himself. In fact, even his recent knockout loss to Regular WBA 135-pound champion Gervonta Davis couldn’t do much to dampened his self-belief. To highlight this notion a bit better, rather than stress a rematch with Davis, Rolly has set his sights on unified welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (28-0, 22 KO’s).

Unsurprisingly, The Truth did not put much thought or attention on the call out. To go a step further, Spence brushed the notion of a showdown with Rolly to the side without even mentioning Romero’s name.

GHOST BUSTER?

While it appears clear that there is not a future for a Spence vs Romero showdown, is the Romero versus Frank “The Ghost” Martin (16-0, 12 KO’s) dustup a shattered possibility as well? Prior to Rolly putting in his bid to face Spence, Spence wondered with the media how a match pitting Martin versus Rolly would turn out. Unlike Romero, who is ranked #5 (WBA), Martin is coming off an impressive tenth round knockout victory over Jackson Marinez.

This is interesting because many, including 3Kings Boxing, felt that Marinez was cheated out of a deserved win over Romero by the judges. Now would actually be a great time for the two to lock horns. While it’s true that Romero is coming off the biggest fight of his career, a pay-per-view against the aforementioned Davis, it was a viral knockout loss. Meanwhile the lesser known Martin is beginning to come into his own and is inheriting a great deal of positive attention from his promoter, Errol Spence Jr. In the end though, if Rolly can’t get a fight with Spence now, what better way to call him out than to beat up his fighter?
